In March 2025, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche made a special visit to the Tergar Schools Yolmo site, where construction is already underway. This school is a heart project for Tergar Schools. Rinpoche envisions a large campus for 600 boys and girls from the Himalayan region. Rooted in his teachings on Awareness, Love, Compassion, Wisdom, and Joy, the campus will offer Tergar Schools’ experiential Buddhist curriculum designed to nurture both academic and inner development.
Rinpoche arrived around midday and was warmly welcomed by the community. To our surprise, local villagers had set up a tent and prepared a meal in his honour. Their respect and admiration for Rinpoche created an atmosphere of joy and reverence. Among the many heartfelt interactions, a new mother approached Rinpoche with her 12-day-old child, requesting him to name the baby—an unexpected yet beautiful moment of connection.
After sharing a meal and engaging in conversations with the villagers and the local lama, Rinpoche proceeded to tour the construction site. His first stop was at the lower part of the site near the entrance, where the monk block and temple will be built. With his compass in hand, he carefully checked the positioning and direction of the temple. Expressing satisfaction with the orientation, he affirmed that the site had good feng shui and recommended constructing a stupa to the west in the future to further enhance the harmony of the space.
Continuing the visit, Rinpoche walked through the areas where additional buildings will be constructed in later stages of the project. As he observed the landscape, he encouraged incorporating flowers into the school grounds to create a beautiful and inspiring environment for the children.
Rinpoche’s presence and insights brought a profound sense of encouragement to the team and community members. His visit reaffirmed the significance of the Tergar Schools Yolmo project, not only as a centre for learning but also as a space where students can experience an education infused with wisdom and compassion.
